We’re all about celebrating Halloween with treats around here! This week, we made these quick and easy Jack O’Lantern Oreos. Aren’t they cute? I try to keep Halloween kid-friendly and not scary at all, so all of the treats we made are easy for kids to help with, too. Here’s how to make this simple but fun Halloween Treat.

Ingredients:
Ghirardelli white chocolate melting wafers (I tried to get orange melting chocolates
, but my store didn’t have any!)
Red and Yellow food coloring
Oreo Cookies
Black gel decorating icing
Milk, if necessary
Other Necessities:
Cold cookie sheet
Parchment Paper
Toothpicks
Directions:
Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and set in the freezer.
In a double boiler or a candy melting pot, melt the white chocolate wafers. One bag of chocolate wafers does about 20 cookies.
Mix the red and orange food coloring with the chocolate wafers to achieve the desired color. Be careful not to overmix the chocolate, because it will get clumpy once the coloring is added to it.
If necessary, add milk one teaspoon at a time to smooth out any clumpiness.
Insert a toothpick into each cookie’s center to make it easier to dip. If you don’t have toothpicks, you can substitute a butter knife.
Dip the cookies into the chocolate, making sure to evenly coat. If you are short on chocolate, only dip one side of the cookie instead.
When the cookies are coated, place them on the cookie sheet to begin the chocolate’s hardening process.
Place the cookie sheet with the cookies on it in the freezer for approximately 10 minutes.
Next, take the cookies out of the freezer and decorate with the gel icing. This is the best part – enjoy it!
I think ours look a little bit more like orange emojis than Jack O’Lanterns, but that’s part of the fun!
Eat the mess-ups. (That’s not really an instruction, but I figure I’ll give you permission anyway!)
As you can see, all of our Jack O’Lanterns didn’t come out perfect, but that’s okay. We had a great time making them!
