Creamy Blue Cheese Salad Dressing and Dip

Back where I used to live there is an Italian restaurant called Hubies. The Italian food wasn’t my favorite, but this place had the best Creamy Dreamy Blue Cheese Salad Dressing and Dip Recipe on the face of the Earth. We’d go there at least once a week and buy a pizza, wings, and “extra extra extra blue cheese dressing.”

Let me just tell you that I gained a LOT of weight from eating all of that blue cheese dressing, but it was totally worth it.

We moved out of the area 3 years ago and for the last 3 years I’ve been trying to recreate Hubie’s Creamy Dreamy Homemade Blue Cheese Salad Dressing Recipe in my own kitchen. I am proud to say that I have finally cracked the code!

blue cheese dressing in a crock and a jar with tomatoes and lettuce

Ingredients:

⅔ cup mayonnaise
⅔ cup sour cream
1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 clove garlic crushed or pressed
1 5 oz container blue cheese crumbles divided
buttermilk to taste
Salt and Pepper to taste

How to Make Creamy Dreamy Blue Cheese Dressing & Dip:

In a glass bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, and half of the blue cheese crumbles.

Mix well, breaking up any large blue cheese crumbles with a fork as you go.

Fold in the second half of the blue cheese crumbles, being sure not to crush them.

If the blue cheese dressing and dip is too thick, add buttermilk one teaspoon at a time to thin it out until it gets to your desired consistency.

Refrigerate for at least two hours before serving. At this point, you can leave it right in the bowl or spoon it into a mason jar for easy storage and serving. I try to put it into a mason jar, but honestly, I'll make it right before we have wings and pizza and it will be gone before I have a chance to store it!

This is seriously my drug. I have no problem eating the entire jar in one sitting. So I try not to make it too often, and I caution you to eat it sparingly! But this creamy homemade blue cheese salad dressing recipe is absolutely the most amazing thing I’ve ever made.  I hope you love it as much as I do! It’s great for dressing salads, dipping veggies, perfect for buffalo chicken wings, and even spreading on sandwiches!! (I told you I loved this stuff!)

Questions People Ask:

What variations can I make to this dressing?

You can make any variations you want, but I think it's pretty perfect as it is. The only thing that would differ is the thickness. If you're using it as a dip with buffalo wings or vegetables, you'd want to keep it thicker. If you're putting it on a salad like my loaded iceberg wedge salad, you want to make it thinner.

What can I serve blue cheese dressing and dip with?

This dip is so versatile. You can use it as a dip for all kinds of things including buffalo wings, celery, carrots, chips, pita chips, etc. Or you can use it as a regular blue cheese dressing on a salad or sub. Pro tip - turkey, lettuce, and blue cheese dressing on a sub roll is amazing!

How do I store it?

You store this dressing in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about 3 days. The dressing will start to separate a bit, so you need to stir it up (or shake it, if in a mason jar) each time you use it.
