Okay, so it’s only August, but I’m ready for fall, crisp leaves, and apples. Lots and lots of apples. One of my favorite ways to eat them this time of year is baked. Easy Baked Apples with caramel sauce taste like apple pie and will warm your soul any day!
These apples are so simple to make that you can have them on a weeknight with dinner, and they’re decadent enough to make for a sweet treat when guests come over. Have I mentioned how easy baked apples are to make?
Ingredients for Easy Baked Apples:
6 apples
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1 cup light brown sugar
1/3 cup heavy cream
whipped cream
That’s right. There are only 5 ingredients, and the whipped cream really doesn’t count since it’s a garnish.
The best thing about this recipe is that you can feed just yourself or a crowd. I like to make easy baked apples for two just to go as a healthy-ish dessert option. Caramel sauce isn’t exactly healthy, but it’s better than cake!
I also like to make easy baked apples because it makes my house smell amazing. Who needs apple scented candles when you can have the real thing? My house smells like a gourmet chef lives here! Anyway, on to the directions.
Directions for Easy Baked Apples
You can go by the instructions listed here or simply check out the recipe card below:
1. Core 6 apples from the top and set in muffin tins. I usually start with a knife around the stem and then use a teaspoon to dig out the rest. Be super careful not to cut through the bottom if you use a knife. You’ll want to get out all the seeds and the hard parts of each apple.
2. In a saucepan, stir brown sugar and butter until smooth. I use a nylon whisk with a nonstick saucepan because I’m really not a fan of dishes. And caramel sauce can make one big sticky mess if you’re not careful.
3. Add heavy cream and constantly whisk until all blended together. It’s important to add the heavy cream at the end because if you cook it too long it will curdle. Sounds gross, right? Yuck.
4. Let boil for 2 minutes. Seriously, don’t boil for more than 2 minutes or you’ll end up with a big sticky burned mess. I have an electric cooktop stove so sometimes I’ll even add the heavy cream and just shut off the burner. It stays hot enough while I stir in the cream that the caramel sauce comes out fine.
5. Remove from heat and spoon into apples. This is the easy part. Take that caramel sauce and put as little or as much into the hole in the apple.
6. Store any remaining caramel in the refrigerator. If you’re me, there is no caramel sauce left. But for normal people that believe in moderation, storing the caramel in the refrigerator is the best idea. It will become ooey-gooey and thicker in the fridge.
7. Bake apples for 15 minutes at 350 degrees. And seriously sit around and smell the goodness! The caramel will bubble over the sides, so make sure you have an oven liner in the bottom of your oven to catch any drippings.
8. Serve warm. Garnish with whipped cream. I usually let the apples sit for about 5 minutes before serving, and then I garnish them with lots of whipped cream.
Enjoy!
Easy baked apples for two are a family favorite here. Whether you make 2 or twenty, I promise you’ll love them!

What kind of apples should I use?
This is kind of a loaded question. I like to use Macintosh for everything, just because they are my favorite. However, you can use Granny Smith, Empire, Red Delicious, Gala, and any other type of apple you can think of. Each will give you a different texture and flavor.
How long are these apples good for?
This is why I only make easy baked apples for two. They will keep in the refrigerator for a few days, but microwaving them doesn’t make the caramel sauce do the same thing and you’ll have a sticky gloppy mess instead of a decadent sauce. They’re so easy to make you can do just a few whenever you want to.
What should I serve the apples with?
One of my favorite things to serve easy baked apples with is Instant Pot Ranch Pork Chops. They go really well with any pork or chicken dish like Instant Pot Salsa Chicken and Rice.
