There’s nothing like a pot of Grandma’s tomato sauce simmering for two days, is there? Yes! There is! Instant Pot Tomato Sauce is the same thing – only the cook time is only 15 minutes!
It’s so nice to be able to make fresh tomato sauce with a spaghetti dinner or for another Italian pasta dish. I can’t recommend this one enough!
Ingredients for Easy Instant Pot Tomato Sauce:
1 large can stewed tomatoes, pureed
1 small can tomato paste
1 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp white sugar
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 small onion, minced
1 tsp oregano
Directions:
You are not going to believe how easy this is. All you have to do is put all of the ingredients together in the Instant Pot.
Close the lid and set on high pressure for 15 minutes.
When time is up, quick release the pressure.
That’s all there is to it.
I’d love to say that it’s so difficult and that I slaved over a hot stove all day, but in reality, it takes about 3 minutes to mince the onion and garlic and then I dump it all in and go.

Variations:
There are so many ways to vary this recipe that you can really change it up and make it your own. First, you can totally cheat with the onion and garlic and use powder. That will make the process go even faster.
If you like a chunkier sauce, feel free to add in green peppers, mushrooms, or anything else your heart desires. Just dump them in and go. Note: Mushrooms contain a LOT of water so you may want to cook them separately and then add them to the sauce after they’ve cooked down. Otherwise, you may end up with a watery mess.
You can also add meat, but like mushrooms, for best results, it makes the most sense to fully cook them separately and add them in at the end. You want to make sure that your meat is always cooked all the way through for safety reasons.
Second, you can change up the spices. Like a little bit of heat in your sauce? Add some red pepper flakes. Want it to feel more Italian? Throw in some basil! You can also get pre-mixed spices like Italian Seasoning and Pizza Seasoning and use them instead of the oregano for a more flavorful option. I have kids, though, so I keep it simple, sister!
How long can you store tomato sauce?
You can store the tomato sauce for 2-3 days in the refrigerator. Anything after that and I’d recommend freezing it for later use. The great thing about this recipe is that while it only gives you 4 servings, you can make it often since it takes so little time. Instant Pot tomato sauce will keep in the refrigerator for approximately 3 months.
What can I serve Instant Pot tomato sauce with?
While the most obvious answer to this question is pasta – any sort of pasta goes great with tomato sauce, it’s also great on eggs, rice, and bread. Sopping up tomato sauce with nice crusty garlic bread is one of my favorite parts of spaghetti night. But don’t stop there; English muffin pizzas, anyone?
