This tasty southern strawberry sweet iced tea is the perfect drink for strawberry season and for cooling down in the summer months. It gives you the feeling of sitting back on a porch rocking chair on a sunny day and enjoying the beautiful weather with an ice-cold glass of sweet tea, southern style. This homemade ice tea might just become your new favorite drink.
The South is known for refreshing and delicious sweet tea, and luckily, even though I’m a New Yorker, I had a Southern grandmother who taught me a thing or two about Southern food, family, and friends. This summer sweet tea recipe tops the list of one of my favorite summer tea drinks and it is a much more refreshing drink than store-bought drinks.
Ingredients for Strawberry Southern Sweet Tea:
- Water – The main ingredient in sweet tea – great for hydrating on hot summer days.
- Strawberry Simple Syrup – The simple syrup gives the tea a sweet and delicious strawberry flavor. You can use homemade strawberry syrup too. It gives it an even more amazing flavor.
- Sugar – There is no sweet tea without sugar! Southerners like their brewed tea super sweet, but this is one of the ingredients you can adjust to your liking. Use as little or as much sugar as you want.
- Black Tea Bags – You can use your favorite tea brand. I just get whatever is on sale.
- Strawberry Slices – These make a very pretty garnish, will give your fruit tea a more intense strawberry flavor, and you get to eat them while you’re sipping this flavorful strawberry tea!

I make my own, but you can buy strawberry simple syrup on Amazon.

Yes! I actually make strawberry sweet tea popsicles with this same strawberry sweet tea recipe sometimes. They’re delicious!
You can use any type of tea that you want, but the flavor will change with each one. I do like to substitute green tea, earl grey, or oolong tea for the black once in a while. I think if you had a good loose tea container, that would work well too.
I haven’t tried it, but I think the cup for cup sweeteners like Swerve would work fine.
Sure – for a boozy alternative. Just add a splash of vodka after the tea is cool. Strawberry tea makes a great cocktail and a perfect party drink!
