Make homemade simple syrup with strawberries in a flash with this easy-to-follow recipe! This sweet and flavorful syrup is made with fresh strawberries, sugar, and water, creating a sweet and fruity treat to elevate your drinks, desserts, and snacks. It tastes amazing in cocktails and mocktails, drizzled over pancakes or ice cream, or even mixed into yogurt or smoothies.
Ingredients for Simple Strawberry Syrup:
- Strawberries – The most obvious ingredient. Fresh strawberries are cooked down with other ingredients to extract all the sweet strawberry flavor.
- Granulated Sugar – Sugar adds sweetness and thickens the syrup.
- Water – Water is the carrier for the sugar and strawberries, making the syrup perfectly pourable. Depending on how thick or thin you want your syrup, the amount of water can be adjusted.
How to make Homemade Strawberry Simple Syrup:
Steps 1-2: Place all ingredients into a saucepan. Bring to a boil and stir until the sugar has dissolved. After the sugar is fully dissolved, reduce heat to low and let simmer for about 30 minutes.
Steps 3-4: Strain the syrup mixture to remove the strawberries. Be sure to strain over a small bowl or dish.
You can let the syrup cool before using it or use it right away. Strawberry simple syrup can also be stored in a bottle or jar in the fridge for up to 2 months.
How to Use Strawberry Simple Syrup
This simple syrup is not only easy to make but it can be used in so many different ways! My favorite way to use it is to make refreshing Southern Style Strawberry Sweet Iced Tea, but it’s also really good in cocktails and mocktails. I also love it in smoothies, drizzled on ice cream, and poured over pancakes. Once you start using it, the more uses you’ll find for this delicious simple syrup recipe. Try using it to make strawberry milk or strawberry milkshakes, too!
Tips for Making Simple Strawberry Syrup
- You can store your strawberry simple syrup in the refrigerator for up to a week. However, if you pour it into a covered ice cube tray it can be frozen for up to 3 months.
- Be sure to not include the stems with your strawberries. The leaves and stems can add a bitter taste that’s not tasty at all.
- Frozen strawberries, thawed, are fine to use, they just might not have as much flavor as fresh.
- Keep an eye on your simmering pot. Every stove is different, so watch to make sure you don’t burn your syrup. If 30 minutes is too much time for your stove, that’s ok – just remove it early.
- Don’t press too hard on your strawberries when straining the syrup. This can cause bits of fruit and seeds to push through the strainer into the finished product.
- Simple syrup is not supposed to be thick like pancake syrup. It will be thinner, which is perfect. To thicken it, you can adjust the amount of sugar and water. Use a little more sugar or a little less water for a thicker syrup.
